چکیده

This paper discusses a framework which considers the behaviour of drivers as a mean to achieve an anticipatory traffic forecast. We introduce a two-layer agent-based architecture for the simulation of traffic flow and consider a simple scenario in which agents (drivers) receive dynamic information about traffic conditions. It is shown that in such scenarios, with information being a key commodity, a layered architecture has advantages over the traditional single-layer simulators, which deal only with the reactive tasks associated with driving. Introducing dynamic information into the system can destabilise traffic patterns in an undesirable way.

A Multi-Agent System for On-Line Simulations based on Real-World Traffic Data

In this paper we present and review a framework for online simulations and predictions which are based on the combination of real-world traffic data and a multi-agent traffic flow model. The agent architecture consists of two layers which distinguish the different tasks that road users have to perform. The framework is applied to the urban road network of Duisburg and the freeway network of Nor...

Modelling Driver Interdependent Behaviour in Agent-Based Traffic Simulations for Disaster Management

Accurate modelling of driver behaviour in evacuations is vitally important in creating realistic training environments for disaster management. However, few current models have satisfactorily incorporated the variety of factors that affect driver behaviour. In particular, the interdependence of driver behaviours is often seen in real-world evacuations, but is not represented in current state-of...

A Machine Learning Approach to Air Traffic Route Choice Modelling

Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management (ATFCM) is one of the constituent parts of Air Traffic Management (ATM). The goal of ATFCM is to make airport and airspace capacity meet traffic demand and, when capacity opportunities are exhausted, optimise traffic flows to meet the available capacity. One of the key enablers of ATFCM is the accurate estimation of future traffic demand. The available i...

On Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models

There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...

When congestion can be useful: modelling driver diversion behaviour in road traffic networks

The ability to accurately predict driver route choices is an important part of traffic assignment, the process of forecasting traffic flows on roads across a region. Many assignment methods only consider the presence of recurrent forms of congestion, such as during rush hour periods, and fail to incorporate non-recurrent congestion effects caused by irregular events such as road traffic acciden...
